Vijay Tendulkar (26 April 1929 – 17 January 2006) was a Marathi theatre and film playwright, author and social-commentator from Maharashtra, India. He received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989 for playwriting with 'Suryaputra'. He also received the Sahitya Akademi Award for "Suryaputra". About Vijay Tendulkar Tendulkar was born to Mr. S. K. Tendulkar (an engineer), and Mrs. Vidyawati (a homemaker) on 26 April 1929 at Wardha in Central Maharashtra, India. He had his schooling at Asif Jahi High School, Mumbai and graduation from Elphinstone College of Commerce, Mumbai. In 1946, he married Ramabai Ramchandra Pavale, who died on 12 March 2008. He has one son, Akhil Tendulkar, who is a director of the Mumbai-based production company Doubloon Films. He died at The Bombay Hospital, Dadar on 17 January 2006.He was married to journalist Manisha Pandit. She has written four books, "Hindustan Times" being the first in Hindi. They have one daughter called Nandini Tendulkar whom she named after her maternal grandfather Pandit Vishwanath Tendulkar.
